Kurzbeschreibung/Zielsetzung

The project consists of two stages with different objectives. In the first stage, the objective is to investigate whether nocturnal cough occurs in asthmatics more frequently than random (i.e. average nocturnal cough rate significantly greater than zero), and, if so, to measure and analyse the prevalence of nocturnal cough is in asthmatics. Additionally, data will be gathered for the development of machine learning algorithms for automated detection of nocturnal cough and sleep quality. In the second stage, provided a sufficient nocturnal cough rate was detected in the first stage, the objective is to investigate whether the nocturnal cough rate could serve as a prognostic marker for asthma control. More specifically, we will explore the (temporal) relationship between nocturnal cough, sleep quality and asthma control.
