Kurzbeschreibung/Zielsetzung

The aim of this exploratory study is to assess the prevalence and the functional role of RTFTs in lung cancer. Total RNA extracted from lung biopsies obtained in 50 patients diagnosed with non-small cell lung cancer (50 tumor biopsies + 50 matched non-malignant lung tissue adjacent to tumors) as well as in 50 patients with inflammatory lung diseases (total: 150 samples) will be profiled using RNA sequencing. A new algorithm for the identification of putative RTFTs will be applied to the RNA sequencing data. The algorithm will be challenged to other existing fusion genes identification tools. The findings in terms of newly discovered fusion genes will be validated by interrogating databases of chimeric transcripts [7]. Comparison with other available data set will be carried out.
