Brief description/objective

To increase our knowledge on structural brain damage and
its changes over time in patients with AF
2. To gain additional insights on the incidence and underlying
mechanisms of cognitive decline in patients with AF
3. To improve long term risk prediction for stroke and systemic
embolism in contemporary AF patients
4. To assess risk factors and subsequent outcomes associated
with AF progression
5. To establish a risk prediction model for AF recurrence after
pulmonary vein isolation
6. To assess the impact of AF on health care costs

Yearly clinical follow-up visits including assessments of personal
characteristics, neurocognitive function, disability and health
economics. Yearly resting electrocardiograms. Brain MRI and
blood sampling at baseline and after 2 years of follow-up.
