Brief description/objective
Our data suggest that perception undergoes a transition into an ego-distant mode of serenity beyond pain. Anxiety and pain happen in the first two stages (pre-transition, transition itself), serenity in the third stage (post-transition). Anxiety, struggle, denial and acceptance, family processes, and maturation (i.e. finding meaning and dignity) seem associated factors of transition.
