Brief description/objective
The aim of this research project is to evaluate the evidence-based treatment standard for patients with midshaft clavicle fractures using an algorithmic approach in a Swiss multi-centre, prospective data collection. This algorithm includes not only the fracture type but also patient’s demands and general health status for the decision-making towards or against surgery. Thus, it is more adapted to the individual patient. Using this standard treatment algorithm, we expect a high rate of adherence to the algorithm, a high overall satisfaction of patients with a low rate of complications and unexpected surgeries compared to the recent literature on this topic.
Data gained from this study will have a significant clinical relevance, as it will be the first study using a patient-specific algorithmic approach based on evidence-based standard treatment. Patient specific factors such as demands, health and compliance are part of this study and their influence on the outcome may be analysed for the first time.
